: Hello I Have a 1998-d lincoln penny that has clad, I guess , showing on the rim of the coin , lincoln's face , lincoln's shirt , and some on the back . The thing is the rest of the coin has copper too . Is it worth anything .
Since 1982 all cents are copper plated zinc. The plating is not done on the metal strip but rather to the blank planchets. Thus, the edge is copper plated also.
There were some early production problems but most seem to be corrected now. i.e. streaky or missing plating, no plating at all, etc.
However, those "errors" are easily faked so there is practically no interest in them nor any premium.
