A co-worker exchanged a 1998quarter with me at work because it did not fit in the vending machine. this quarter has two "bubbles" on it -one on each side of the coin (and not centered under each other). I then looked - thinking that it was struck with a punch to create the rise, but the backs (opposite sides ) where each bubble is is not damaged. Then I thought it was heated to create this mound of extra metal, but I thought if it had been altered with enough heat to create a bubble inside the coin, then I would think that Georges face would have melted off and on the other side the eagles wing as well. Would this be a misstrike? and how would it have been created?
Thank You
