It's not clear what you mean by "looks like a nickel" if it's the same size and weight as a normal cent.
As far as the edges are concerned, the metal stock from which cent planchets (blanks) are punched can vary quite a bit in thickness and still be within tolerances. Put together a stack of cents and look at the variation in thickness. A thicker planchet will tend to flow upwards more in the press collar because the dies come together to a fixed distance, and the extra metal has to go somewhere.
The L in Liberty is crooked because it's near the edge and the thick planchet didn't flow as cleanly as it might have when the coin was struck. Again, check other coins for similar variations.
: the penny looks normal except the "L" in Liberty is crooked, the edges stick out higher and lower than the rest of the penny, and looks like a nickel.
