Interesting. A die cap would cause a negative image on the other coin, so that fact would have been important to include. Otherwise the question unfortunately looks like so many others that result from "escaped" magicians' coins. Congratulations!

: Thanks for your reply....I was able to find what I have on another site. It is not a novelty item. It is a "deep reverse die cap" penny and from what I've been able to learn, they aren't all that common. It happens when a struck penny adheres to the die and strikes another...becoming the die itself. Still not sure on the value though. This site had one very similar for 700 bucks.

: Thanks again!

: : If you search (ctrl-F in IE or Firefox) for "double" or "two" you'll find lots of other similar posts. You have a privately-made novelty item called a magician's coin. In fact, the post right under yours on the main thread is about the same subject.

: : Ballpark price - a couple of bucks in a novelty shop, but because it's not genuine it's of no interest to coin collectors.

: : : Hi!! I have a penny that is the normal 'tails' on one side but the other is also 'tails' but is not very clear at all. It also seems to be more concave than the normal side. There's a slight raised ridge on the mis-struck side making the penny appear more thick than normal. What do I have here and what would a ballpark price range be?

: : : Thanks for your help!!
