Any coins with extra images on them (state outlines, pictures of JFK, etc.) are not Mint products. They're novelty items made by private companies who take ordinary circulation coins and use metal punches to add the extra design.

You'll find ads in the backs of magazines, on TV "infomercials", and similar places. Depending on the seller there may be anywhere from a small amount to oceans of hype about the coins being special collectibles, only available for a limited time, etc. etc.

HOWEVER ... From a numismatic (coin collector's) standpoint such coins are in the same class as those (in)famous magician's 2-headed coins that cause such a fuss when they turn up in change. I.e. they're considered to be altered or damaged goods with little or no value to a numismatist.

There *are* niche-type collectors who may be interested in them as novelties, so the fact that you have a complete set may be to your advantage. While eBay can be somewhat of a free-for-all when it comes to figuring out what novelties are worth, it may still be your best bet for trying to establish a rough value and/or sell your set.

Please forgive me if I conveyed a slight note of cynicism, but many altered coins tend to cause consternation for collectors and dealers because they often come with an assumption they're mint errors and will let the finder take that long-postponed trip to Tahiti. We end up having to pop lots of balloons. I'm afraid :-)

: I recently read someone having a 1994 collection of the state stamped pennies. I have a 1974 state stamped penny collection and I would like to know more about it. Can any one help me??
