: I have a 1928 buffalo head nickel that has a man with a beard and crown on the opposite side. When I look for information on this coin, everything I read says all nickels during this period had an Indian head. Is this a counterfeit or someting of interest?
It is an altered coin being hand tooled to change the Indian to a different figure. Some 'original' early pieces are worth considerable while the current 'modern' items are not.
Look up Hobo nickel.
