: Hello there. I have unearthed from my basement a Kennedy Mint Coin Collection in a large cabinet-style case and I was trying to find some info online about it. It is called the Heritage of America coin collection, and came out in the early 70s sometime. The Kennedy Mint website doesn't have anything on there about this collection and my other online searches have turned out unsuccessful. Any ideas/info out there for me? Thanks in advance...
Well for starters, the Kennedy Mint is just a private company not a government mint so if these pieces were created by them they are not coins, just private medals. There were a lot of private mints producing medals back in the 60's an 70's. Most all of the pieces from these private mints are only worth whatever the melt value of the metal they are made from is worth. We would need information on weight, composition and number of pieces in the set.
Some of these companies id make up "collections" of US coins in fancy holders and sold them. Typically these sets are made up of heavily worn, highly polished coins and they are usually only worth their melt value as well.
