: : Greetings. I'm a cashier in Wisconsin, recently I acquired a 1961 beaver nickel (canadian), w/ Elizabeth II on the reverse. The coin guides tell me this coin should be 99.9% nickel, yet it is strongly attracted to a magnet. ANy Ideas?

: In addition to iron, nickel and colbalt are also magnetic.

In fact, up to the 1960s some of the best magnets were made without any iron or steel. "Alnico" magnets contain nickel and cobalt, with some aluminum thrown in to adjust their coercivity.
