Your question comes up frequently.

First, you have Peace dollars, not Morgan dollars. The Morgan design was discontinued in 1921. The back of a Morgan dollar shows an eagle with spread wings while Peace dollars have the wings folded, along with the word PEACE, to commemorate the end of World War I.

Second, the spelling is correct as it is; it's definitely NOT an error. It was a common practice in the early 20th century for artists to use the Latin alphabet to letter classically-themed works. Latin did not have the letters U or J - V and I served as both vowels and consonants, the same way English uses Y in both senses. The same lettering is used on ALL Peace dollars, all Standing Liberty quarters, not to mention many buildings and monuments from that era. In fact, even the motto E Pluribus Unum is spelled E Plvribvs Vnvm on SLQ's !!

After all, when you think about it, what's the likelihood that the Mint would repeat an "error" over multiple years?

Finally, regarding value, 1922 and 1923 are two of the most common years for Peace dollars. Current retail prices for those dates in average condition are in the $15 range, plus or minus a couple of bucks. Of course a dealer will pay wholesale and one of those "we buy gold and silver" places will probably just give you the coins' melt value so unless you sell them privately I'd consider $10 to $12 to be a reasonable buy price. If they're only minimally worn to almost new, you might be able to get up to twice that amount, especially if they have a small D or S mint mark near the word ONE on the back.

Finally, with all due respect, simply typing "silver dollar" and "trvst" into any good search engine would give you thousands of similar explanations....

: I have ONE 1922 morgan silver dollar and One 1923 morgan silver dollar. Both have In God We Trvst, instead of In God We Trust. Are they valuable?
